Uncompromising Passion
Hooghoudt was established in 1888 by Hero Jan Hooghoudt, a baker from Groningen, Netherlands, evolving into a respected producer of genever, vodka, and other spirits over four generations. The distillery operated from its original location in Groningen's city centre before relocating to a modern facility in Euvelgunne. For over a century, Hooghoudt maintained its commitment to artisanal production, blending tradition with innovation. The company employed 50–100 people and generated significant regional economic impact. In May 2025, La Martiniquaise-Bardinet acquired Hooghoudt, announcing that production would relocate to their facility in Ghent, Belgium, by year-end. Despite the closure of the historic Groningen site, the brand continues under new ownership, with assurances that product quality and customer delivery remain unchanged.
Triple-distilled using traditional column stills with locally sourced grain and spring water. Charcoal filtration ensures purity and smoothness. Production methods reflect Dutch distilling heritage, emphasizing neutral grain spirit character typical of Northern European vodka traditions.
