Skyy Vodka was created in 1992 by Maurice Kanbar, who founded Skyy Spirits LLC in San Francisco with a vision to produce an exceptionally smooth vodka through innovative distillation and filtration techniques. Kanbar pioneered a proprietary quadruple distillation process combined with triple filtration through California limestone and reverse-osmosis technology to achieve exceptional purity. The brand quickly gained popularity across the United States for its distinctive cobalt-blue bottle and accessible price point. In 1999, the Campari Group, headquartered in Milan, Italy, acquired the brand, and Skyy became part of the Campari America Division. Despite mixed critical reviews regarding character and complexity, Skyy has maintained a strong market presence as a reliable mixing vodka and budget-friendly option for consumers seeking a smooth, neutral spirit without premium pricing.
