Uncompromising Passion
Du Nord Social Spirits emerged from an unexpected journey when founder Chris Montana was encouraged by a supporter to establish what became America's first Black-owned distillery in 2013. Operating from Minneapolis, the brand recently rebranded from Du Nord Craft Spirits to emphasize its mission as a conduit for social change and inclusivity within the spirits industry. Foundation Vodka represents this philosophy—a spirit crafted not only for quality but with purpose. Every bottle sold generates proceeds that support the Du Nord Foundation, which addresses racial inequities and builds economic justice in Minneapolis. The vodka won Best in Vodka at the 2021 WSWA Brand Battle and Gold at the 2022 Denver International Spirits Competition, earning recognition for its balanced profile and approachability. Montana's leadership extends beyond the distillery; he served as the American Craft Spirits Association's first African-American President, setting an example for systemic change within the industry.
Foundation Vodka is distilled three times using grain base and charcoal filtration to achieve a clean, crisp profile. The production emphasizes balance and smoothness, creating a versatile spirit suitable for cocktails or neat consumption. Minnesota water sources contribute to the vodka's refined character.
