Uncompromising Passion
Żołądkowa Gorzka was created in 1956 at the Polmos-Lublin distillery and became one of Poland's most consumed vodkas during the communist era, maintaining its status as a benchmark herbal spirit across Eastern Europe. The Mint expression represents the brand's modern expansion, introducing a cooling mint layer atop the original recipe of bitter orange, herbs, and subtle caramel. Unlike crème de menthe liqueurs, which are sugar-heavy and typically 20-25% ABV with single-note flavor, Żołądkowa Gorzka Mint functions as a full-strength 40% ABV vodka with genuine complexity. The brand's heritage traces to Poland's centuries-old nalewka tradition—infusing vodka with fruits and herbs—dating back to the 16th century. Originally exclusive to manor homes, by the mid-1800s nalewka-making had become widespread, with numerous instructional texts published. Żołądkowa Gorzka carries this legacy into modern production, earning international recognition including a Grand Gold Quality Award in 2009 and Three Golden Stars from the International Taste & Quality Institute in 2013.
Produced from cereal grains using artesian spring water sourced locally. The spirit undergoes herbal infusion with mint, bitter orange, and traditional spices, creating a thick, oily texture characteristic of the range. The mint variant layers cooling menthol notes over the established herbal-bitter base with subtle caramel undertones, resulting in a spirit that bridges vodka and herbal liqueur categories.
