Uncompromising Passion
Koskenkorva Vodka Climate Action represents a landmark in sustainable spirits production. Launched in early 2021, it is the world's first vodka made entirely from regeneratively farmed barley, developed through Altia's collaboration with farmer Jari Eerola and the Baltic Sea Action Group. The barley originates from the Setälä-Eerola farm in Tuulos, Hämeenlinna, cultivated using regenerative agriculture principles: year-round plant cover, minimal tilling, and organic fertilizers. The distillery, operating since 1941 on the banks of the Kyröjoki river in Southern Ostrobothnia, runs on 100% renewable bioenergy from its own power plant. The production process utilizes every barley grain—unusable portions become animal feed, barley starch, or fuel. The distillery operates 350 days annually and aims for full carbon neutrality by 2026. This vodka embodies a commitment to combating climate change by converting agricultural fields from emission sources into carbon sinks, drawing CO2 from the atmosphere and storing it in the ground.
Distilled at the Koskenkorva distillery using state-of-the-art column stills powered by 100% renewable bioenergy. Pure, unfiltered spring water from Rajamäki provides the base. The production process utilizes 100% of barley grains; byproducts fuel the bioenergy power plant. Distillation runs continuously for 350 days annually in a circular-economy model.
