Crafted with
Uncompromising Passion
Koskenkorva Viina was born in 1953 when the newly constructed Koskenkorva distillery in the village of Koskenkorva, Southern Ostrobothnia, began commercial production. The distillery itself had roots dating to 1941, when the Finnish alcohol monopoly acquired land from the Koskenkorva family and built the facility. Initially distilled from potatoes, production quickly shifted to barley, which thrived in the region's fertile coastal fields. The spirit was conceived as a versatile product for mixed drinks and chilled consumption. By 1960, Koskenkorva Viina had become Finland's most popular spirit, a position it maintains today. The traditional 38% ABV formulation, combined with a touch of sugar and pure spring water, creates a smooth, approachable character that defines Finnish drinking culture. Though often called vodka internationally due to EU labeling requirements, Finns know it as viina—a distinction reflecting its unique heritage and production philosophy.
Produced using a proprietary 200-step continuous distillation process designed to create high-purity grain alcohol from barley. The raw spirit is then diluted with pure Finnish spring water and a minimal amount of sugar. This continuous method ensures consistent purity and smoothness. Bottled at the Rajamäki facility in Nurmijärvi.
