Uncompromising Passion
Grey Goose was created in 1997 by Sidney Frank, who recognized that North American consumers were ready for a premium vodka positioned as a French luxury product. Frank partnered with Cellar Master François Thibault and established production in the Cognac region of France, applying the same meticulous ingredient sourcing principles used in fine wine and cognac production. The vodka is crafted from soft winter wheat grown exclusively in the Picardy region and blended with spring water from Gensac-la-Pallue, naturally filtered through Champagne limestone—the same geological formation that filters water for the region's renowned cognacs. This limestone filtration imparts a distinctive mineral smoothness. The brand's name references the grey geese native to the Cognac region, depicted on its iconic label. The strategy proved remarkably successful; Frank sold Grey Goose to Bacardi in 2004 for over two billion dollars, establishing it as the benchmark premium vodka in the United States market.
